Click on the animal picture to read about the animal.

» All about animals in kanji
Read about animals in Japanese. You could use the "rikai" site (Dictionary 4) to help read kanji you haven't studied.

» English Language Sites
A range of web sites to help with English skills. Bursary Japanese exams require a good level of English, and NCEA assessments also focus strongly on answering questions in English. This is a useful site for students who are not native speakers of English to improve their skills.

» Hiragana and Katakana Practice
On the left-hand side scroll down to 4.9, 4.10 and 4.11 "Java programme to draw hiragana strokes", the programme for katakana or the hiragana/katakana game.

» Japanese Folktales
These folktales are read in traditional Japanese style - down the page from right to left. The site is divided into four categories. The first category contains ten stories selected among the famous old tales such as Momotaro (Peach Boy), Omusubi Kororin (Rolling Rice Balls), Hanasaka Jiisan (An Old Man and the Cherry Tree), etc. The rest of the categories contain stories selected from all over Japan from Hokkaido to Okinawa. The stories in these categories come with narration in Japanese. You can choose to read the stories with or without narration. Flash Player is required to read the stories.
