New Zealand Japan Young People's Exchange Programme (NZJYPEP)
Administered by Asia New Zealand Foundation, NZJYPEP provides individual grants of up to $5000 to deserving secondary students of Japanese language who are unable to meet the total costs of a study visit to Japan. To be eligible, applicants will typically: · be 16-19 years old · have completed NCEA Level 1 Japanese · have a good academic record · have good interpersonal skills and an ability to cope with a different culture · have clearly stated goals for the visit and for studying Japanese · be planning a study visit approved by the student’s Japanese teacher, which will improve language skills and cultural understanding · be unable to meet the total cost of the visit due to financial hardship and · be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident. Applications from Japanese language teachers organising school trips for 2007 will also be considered for this deadline. See the link below for application guidelines. Application deadline 9 March 2007. Other deadlines for the year will be 15 June and 26 October. Assistance to schools will depend on funding available.
